Comme des Garçons has consistently remained relevant in the world of art and fashion since its establishment in 1973. Their AW18 collection stays true to their philosophy of having minimalist ready to wear items which have been elevated with different cuts, utilitarian aspects and a playful flourish to them.
This is the first and only time the Jean Michel Basquiat estate has approved the artist’s work to be used. Rei Kawakubo, founder and designer of CDG, showcases Basquiat’s neo-expressionist work through shirts and t-shirts whilst adding her own graphic touches to set it apart.
Basqiuat himself walked in a Comme des Garçons show in 1987 which shows the relevance of this collection, helping cement Comme des Garçons' position in the world of fashion and art.
Special thanks to artist Desmond Brett for use of his studio.
