We at Philip Browne are very proud to welcome another iconic brand for their first season within our doors. This AW18 we introduce the titan Comme des Garçons.
Rei Kawakubo, is the founder and designer of Comme des Garçons. Her humble beginnings started in 1969, before being established as a brand in 1973. Proving to be popular and successful in Japan, Rei showcased Comme des Garçons for their debut show in Paris, 1981.
Comme des Garçons has consistently remained relevant in the world of art and fashion since its establishment. Their AW18 collection sticks to their philosophy of having minimalist ready to wear items which have different cuts and utilitarian aspects to them.
This is the first and only time the Jean Michel Basquiat estate has approved the artist’s work to be allowed. Rei showcases Basquiat’s work through shirts and t-shirts whilst adding his own graphics to set it apart. Basqiuat himself walked for Comme des Garçons show in 1987 which shows the relevance of this collection, cementing Comme des Garçons position in the world of fashion and art.
49 years later since its inception, Comme des Garçons is still continuing its legacy as a highly innovative brand that’s consistently evolving to meet the everchanging tastes in the world of fashion.
