Here at Philip Browne, we have stocked many iconic brands since our establishment in 1986, including Austrian designer Helmut Lang and his signature label. As 2019 begins we are proud to reintroduce Helmut Lang once again to our roster.
Also established in 1986, Helmut Lang was under the helm of his namesake brand until he retired from fashion in 2005. Lang brought his forward-thinking designs and infused them with a minimalistic aesthetic which became the brands signature throughout its collections. He incorporated utilitarian aspects and unconventional fabrics whilst still creating timeless silhouettes and premium denim.
Throughout his pioneering career, Lang’s work has been compared to the likes of Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo. His philosophy and influence to fashion from the late 1980s all the way to the early 2000s has still remained relevant in fashion today.
Helmut Lang as a label relaunched in 2017, governed by editor in residence Isabella Burley. Alongside her is a collective of young, up and coming designers and creatives including; Shayne Oliver, the founder of Hood By Air and Ava Nirui the Digital editor for Helmut Lang.
The SS19 collection stays true to Lang’s roots. It pays homage to their founder and the seminal “L’Apocalypse Joyeuse” exhibition in Paris which introduced Helmut Lang to the world in 1986. You will find unconventional materials such as PVC partnered with utilitarian aspects and military influences throughout the collection.
The collection highlights the brands rich history of an innovative approach to design with the labels latest collaboration with Parley for the oceans. Promoting a responsible approach to fashion by incorporating Parley’s recycled ocean plastic.
We’ve created a lookbook comprised of the stand out pieces from the SS19 collection.
