It's a small world after all.
Great Yarmouth is full of famous attractions but few as good or iconic as the Merrivale Model Village, which has been on the sea front since 1961. Philip himself has fond memories of going there as a child. The miniature world was a super fun backdrop to showcase our favourite silhouettes from this season. Including New Balance, Asics and Converse Play. Using the juxtaposition of scale to our advantage and elevating the shoes design, its by far the best shoe edit to date…
Wandering around the village, its easy to feel like a giant, but last summer when Banksy was holidaying in Norfolk, he climbed the fences of the village (not so tiny) and defaced one of the tiny houses, which cleverly said “Go Big or Go Home”. The village saw record numbers of punters, flocking to see the piece by the world famous artist(s). A year later and the mummerings of Banksy can still be heard around the village, with the original piece now permanently removed and a replica in its place, with a perspex box protecting it. We avoided doing the obvious and using it in the editorial. However, the Merrivale overseers have created miniature versions of the other pieces that sprung up all over the Norfolk coast during last summer. Including the statue of Fredrick Savage eating an ice cream that can be spotted in one of the shots… We hope you enjoy the images as much as we enjoyed creating them.
A huge thanks to Dean and his team at the Merrivale Model village for letting us use the space. If your in Great Yarmouth this summer, go check it out.
