Comme des Garcons SHIRT x Jean-Michel Basquiat Ernok T-shirt AW18
Comme des Garcons SHIRT x Jean-Michel Basquiat Ernok T-shirt AW18

Here we have the highly exclusive collaboration between the Jean Michael Basquiat estate and Comme des Garcons Shirt which was launched in the AW18 season. We sold the full collections but kept back a few pieces for our archive. It was the first time JMB's paintings were legally allowed to be reproduced onto a garment. Basquiat himself walked for CDG back in 1987.

The now famous Ernok painting was created in 1983, at the time he was gaining acknowledgment in the art world, having met Any Warhol in 81 the pair collaborated on numerous pieces in the years that followed. Untitled (Ernok) is regarded to be a critical point in his progression in commercial fame. The same year he had his first seminal solo show at Annina Nosei gallery in New York and Gargosian in LA. His heavy bodied, electric impasto mark making is uniquely recognisable today to be his, commonly regarded as the flag flier for the neo expressionism movement. Sadly JMB overdosed in 1988. His legacy beyond the art world is huge, inspiring generations in the years that followed, across art, music and fashion.
